Target Audience:
Target audience will include consultant pharmacists and other clinicians from various disciplines who care for these patients. This course will focus on distinguishing urinary tract infection from asymptomatic bacteriuria. The pharmacological treatment and duration of complicated urinary tract infection, acute pyelonephritis, and catheter-associated urinary tract infection. Throughout the presentation factors unique to the elderly population will be utilized to highlight the complexities of this demographic.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should be able to:
Differentiate asymptomatic bacteriuria from urinary tract related infections.
- Describe the signs and symptoms of urinary tract related infections
- Interpret minimum concentration and clinical significance in selection of pharmacotherapy.
- Apply key pharmacotherapy considerations for optimized antimicrobial therapy selection.
- Formulate an optimized antimicrobial treatment plan in patients with urinary tract related infections.
