Target Audience:
This program is intended for pharmacists and other health care professionals who have little or no experience in geriatric pharmacy or have had an extended absence from geriatric pharmacy.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize medication-related problems in the elderly.
- Identify risk factors for inappropriate medication use in older adults.
- Compare implicit and explicit methods to assess medication appropriateness.
- Utilize the AGS Beers Criteria® to identify medications considered to be potentially inappropriate for use in older adults.
- Describe strategies that pharmacists can use to deprescribe medications and improve medication appropriateness.
