Gender-Affirming Pharmacotherapy: Improving Care for Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals
Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals face a multitude of barriers when interfacing with the healthcare system, with studies showing that many delay care and seek it when only absolutely necessary. According to the Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders (SAGE), 88% of LGBT older persons report that they would feel more comfortable utilizing long-term care services if they knew staff had received training regarding their specific needs. Due to the limited literature available regarding gender-affirming therapies and their impacts on the care of older persons, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to play an important role in navigating complex drug therapies, preventing adverse drug events, optimizing safety, and providing patients with the best information to make informed healthcare decisions which also consider patient-specific goals of care.

CPE Credit: You must complete the post-test and evaluation by the expiration date to receive credit. You have three attempts to achieve a 75% or higher on the post-test. ASCP reports CPE attainment to ACPE and NABP via the CPE Monitor system. The course should be posted within 24-48 hours of evaluation completion. The participant is responsible for providing their correct date of birth (MMDD format) and NABP e-Profile ID on their member or guest profile on the ASCP Website.
