Continuing Pharmacy Education:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should be able to:
- Review the process of interpreting lab values in the senior population, with a focus on differentiating when and when not to initiate medication treatment.
- Discuss updated cardiovascular treatment guidelines, including new data on the appropriate use of medications for dyslipidemia, hypertension, and atrial fibrillation in older adults.
- Discuss updated patient-specific treatment guidelines and the role of new agents for endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus in the older adult.
- Differentiate and discuss treatment options for psychiatric conditions affecting the elderly, including dementia, behavioral disturbances, and depression.
- Discuss appropriate ways to manage and monitor medication use for the treatment of delirium and other neurological disorders in the older adult.
