Target Audience:
This is a 4-hour workshop that
will focus on applying the seven core elements of the CDC and Prevention as
well as the IDSA/SHEA recommendations to develop and implement a successful
antimicrobial stewardship program. The workshop will also provide examples of
clinically significant antimicrobial issues and will address regulatory
requirements and ways to comply with these requirements in long-term care
settings. The workshop will conclude with a quality assurance and performance
improvement session. Senior care pharmacists will be given the opportunity to
apply their knowledge and skills to ensure the judicious and appropriate use of
antimicrobials at their institutions.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based, participants should be able
to:
- Classify antimicrobial-resistant organisms according to the WHO priority and the CDC threat levels.
- Identify the seven CDC core elements of antibiotic stewardship for nursing homes.
- Provide recommendations for implementing an antibiotic stewardship program according to the IDSA/SHEA guidelines.
- Provide examples of clinically significant antimicrobial issues pertaining to older adults.
- Provide ways to comply with regulatory requirements related to antibiotic stewardship in a long-term care setting.
- Develop quality assurance and performance improvement plans for an antibiotic stewardship program in a long-term care setting.
