At the conclusion of this knowledge-based activity, participants should be
able to:
- Identify the ethical implications of providing care to patients with dementia.
- Describe the ethics of withholding and/or withdrawing medication in patients with dementia.
- Explain the value of advance care directive preparation as an ethical vehicle for assessing patient preferences for the provision or non-provision of life-sustaining medication in the patient with dementia.
- Describe the importance of knowledge of end-of-life care issues for pharmacy practice.
