Target Audience:
Vitamin D is a common supplement encountered on medication reviews; however, this supplement may need more scrutinizing than in the past. Conflicting evidence and recommendations regarding optimal Vitamin D levels in elderly patients can make supplementation selection and dosing challenging. This presentation will review the evidence and provide pharmacists with a better understanding of this commonly used vitamin supplement.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this Application-Based activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify patients who may be at risk for Vitamin D deficiency.
- Describe possible effects of Vitamin D levels outside optimal range.
- Discuss literature describing optimal Vitamin D levels in older adults.
- Select appropriate supplementation in patients for treatment of Vitamin D deficiency.

How to Earn Credit:
BCGP Credit: Per the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), all pharmacists seeking BCGP Recertification have ONE attempt to achieve a 70% or higher on the 10-question post-test.
CPE Credit: You must complete the post-test and evaluation by April 1, 2020 at 11:59 pm ET to receive credit. ASCP reports CPE attainment to ACPE and NABP via the CPE Monitor system. The course should be posted within 24-48 hours of evaluation completion. It is the responsibility of the participant to provide their correct date of birth (MMDD format) and NABP e-Profile ID on their member or guest profile on the ASCP Website.
