Vitamin
D is a common supplement encountered on medication reviews; however, this
supplement may need more scrutinizing than in the past. Conflicting evidence
and recommendations regarding optimal Vitamin D levels in elderly patients can
make supplementation selection and dosing challenging. This presentation will
review the evidence and provide pharmacists with a better understanding of this
commonly used vitamin supplement.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should
be able to:
- Identify patients who may be at risk for Vitamin D deficiency.
- Describe possible effects of Vitamin D levels outside optimal range.
- Discuss literature describing optimal Vitamin D levels in older adults.
- Select appropriate supplementation in patients for treatment of Vitamin D deficiency.

How to Earn
Credit:
Post-Test: You will have unlimited attempts to achieve a 70% or higher
on the post-test assessment.
CPE Credit: You must complete the post-test and evaluation within 365 days post purchase to receive credit. ASCP reports CPE attainment to ACPE and NABP via the CPE Monitor system. The course should be posted within 24-48 hours of evaluation completion. It is the responsibility of the participant to provide their correct date of birth (MMDD format) and NABP e-Profile ID on their member or guest profile on the ASCP Website.
