Target Audience:
Chronic heart failure is a
common diagnosis that affects older adults. This interactive, case based session,
will review the current guideline-directed medical therapy for patients with
heart failure with reduced (HFrEF) and preserved (HFpEF) ejection fraction. The
session will include a discussion of two newer agents for the treatment
of HFrEF, sacubitril/valsartan and ivabradine, with an emphasis on
appropriate utilization and monitoring in older adults.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this Application-Based activity, participants should
be able to:
- Explain the pathophysiology behind the development of chronic heart failure.
- List lifestyle changes used in the treatment of chronic heart failure.
- Describe current guideline-directed medical therapy for patients with chronic heart failure, including the place in therapy of sacubitril/valsartan and ivabradine.
- Apply the principals of pharmacotherapy for chronic heart failure to patient cases.

How to Earn Credit:
BCGP Credit: Per the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), all
pharmacists seeking BCGP Recertification have ONE attempt to achieve a 70% or
higher on the 10-question post-test.
CPE Credit: You must complete the post-test and evaluation by September 1, 2019 at 11:59 pm ET to receive credit. ASCP reports CPE attainment to ACPE and NABP via the CPE Monitor system. The course should be posted within 24-48 hours of evaluation completion. It is the responsibility of the participant to provide their correct date of birth (MMDD format) and NABP e-Profile ID on their member or guest profile on the ASCP Website.
