Audience:
This presentation is
targeting pharmacists who manage and monitor patients receiving antiarrhythmic
drugs. Emphasis will be given to arrhythmias common to the elderly population.
Learning
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this Application-Based activity, participants should be
able to:
- Discuss the major mechanism of arrhythmia generation.
- Differentiate the role of antiarrhythmic drugs compared to electrical treatment for both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.
- List the primary use and monitoring parameters for the Class I and III antiarrhythmic drugs.
- Formulate a treatment plan for a patient with atrial fibrillation.
- Analyze the medical record for a patient on amiodarone to optimize safety.
