Target Audience: Sleep disorders in older adults can be common. While trying to avoid certain high-risk medications, melatonin, a natural product, may be added as a first-line intervention. Does it work? What is the evidence to support the increased use of melatonin? This session will review the role of melatonin in older adults and discuss considerations for indications, dosing, and monitoring.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should be
able to:
- Examine the safety and efficacy of varying melatonin strengths.
- Review the evidence for melatonin receptor agonists.
- Educate providers and caregivers on the use of melatonin products.
- Apply goals of therapy to patient cases.
