Target Audience: Sleep disorders in older adults can be common. While trying to avoid certain high-risk medications, melatonin, a natural product, may be added as a first-line intervention. Does it work? What is the evidence to support the increased use of melatonin? This session will review the role of melatonin in older adults and discuss considerations for indications, dosing, and monitoring.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should be
able to:
- Examine the safety and efficacy of varying melatonin strengths.
- Review the evidence for melatonin receptor agonists.
- Educate providers and caregivers on the use of melatonin products.
- Apply goals of therapy to patient cases.

How
to Earn Credit:
BCGP Credit: Per the Board of
Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), all pharmacists seeking BCGP Recertification have
ONE attempt to achieve a 70% or higher on the 10-question post-test.
CPE Credit: You must complete the post-test and evaluation by December 1, 2018 at 11:59 pm ET to receive credit. ASCP reports CPE attainment to ACPE and NABP via the CPE Monitor system. The course should be posted within 24-48 hours of evaluation completion. It is the responsibility of the participant to provide their correct date of birth (MMDD format) and NABP e-Profile ID on their member or guest profile on the ASCP Website.
