Target Audience: Nearly one of every three people in the United States will develop shingles (herpes zoster) during his or her lifetime, with increasing prevalence as one ages. Almost half of the one million cases of shingles reported each year occurs in patients aged 60 and older. In October 2017, the FDA approved a new shingles vaccine, Shingrix (Zoster Vaccine Recombinant, Adjuvanted). The audience will be provided with a review of this new vaccine and evidence regarding its efficacy. Audience members will also be provided with practice implications based the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations regarding zoster vaccines with two products now on the market, Shingrix and Zostavax (Zoster Vaccine Live).
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based
activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the Shingrix vaccine and key drug information for the product
- Evaluate differences between the Shingrix vaccine and Zostavax vaccine
- Review ACIP recommendations regarding vaccination against herpes zoster
- Formulate herpes zoster vaccination recommendations for patient cases

How to Earn Credit:
BCGP Credit: Per the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), all
pharmacists seeking BCGP Recertification have ONE attempt to achieve a 70% or
higher on the 10-question post-test.
CPE Credit: You must complete the post-test and evaluation by May 6, 2018 at 11:59 pm ET to receive credit.ASCP reports CPE attainment to ACPE and NABP via the CPE Monitor system. The course should be posted within 24-48 hours of evaluation completion. It is the responsibility of the participant to provide their correct date of birth (MMDD format) and NABP e-Profile ID on their member or guest profile on the ASCP Website.
